Engaging students in science and math education through real world companies and technologies

Through the STEM Hawaii website, Educators and Industry members can collaborate to create relevant projects that demonstrate real-world applications of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. These projects can effectively inform and inspire students to pursue further learning and careers in STEM-related pathways. This creates opportunities to ensure economic sustainability for communities in Hawaii.

Ipu Waiwai - Storing the Wealth of Learning

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Ipu Waiwai (2010-2013)  targets elementary school teachers in the Nanakuli/Wai‘anae public school district on the island of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. Its primary objective is to connect teachers with academia, cultural and industry mentors in integrating place-based, culturally aligned curriculum employing technology and 21st century learning. Access to resources and industry mentors in renewable energy (iPad app and hands-on project-based lesson plans), geospatial technologies (GPS/GIS and remote sensing), geophysics/volcanology and mobile tech (iPod Touches) for data collection in scientific inquiry.
